We Heart Books

The interior of our Public Library is my last photo for Emily's Green Week...

We are a book loving family. All four of us read every day. Well, the adults read while the little ones listen, though they do often "read" to themselves and to the Sea Monkeys. The Public Library is one of my son's favorite places. Once a week my friend J takes both of our boys to the library. My son has grown quite fond of the library's large collection of Disney stories - The Little Mermaid being his absolute favorite. (Ariel comes home with him at least once a month.) My children love books and I love that they see the magic within them.

Other current favorites around our place include:

My daughter's favorite.

Also a great song on the Really Rosie soundtrack.

A wonderful read aloud. Grab it if you see it for sale because it's out of print.

What are the favorites in your house?

My son is an avid reader. So much so that we had to move the bookshelves out of his room because he would read past midnight every night.
Current faves: Gordon Korman - Dive, Everest, Island series and any of the Bruno and Boots books. Really any books with good people stories (rather than wizards, etc). He also loves graphic books - Bone, Sardine, etc.
We love the library, especially for books on CD.

Your library is just spectacular! I would spend hours and hours reading on those chairs by the fireplace. Aaaah!

Bruno and Boots! Oh I'd forgotten about those, when I was young (and Gordon Korman wasn't much older) he came to my school to read from his first book (This can't be happening at McDonald Hall). He was in his late teens, I had a bit of a crush :)

My kids are still loving the Camille series, and the Flower Fairies books too.

Your library is lovely, our local library is an old one-room school house, and the main branch in the city feels more like a Starbucks.

What a gorgeous picture. Your library is one of the prettiest spots on the Island; best view of the water too.

Hope I can get up and visit it soon, makes me miss Mackinac Is. What an amazing place to work and live!

Best wishes

What a wonderful place! We love libraries and books as well. We like sharing them with family and friends. I am currently reading a couple of books written by David Ball "Ironfire: A Novel of the Knights of Malta and the Last Battle of the Crusades" followed by "The Sword and the Scimitar". It is an amazing story and a pleasant way to learn some history. I highly recommend it to everybody

Oh I loved Gordon Korman too! He also made a trip to our school, and I remember going up to get my book signed and thinking "this is the first real celebrity I've met!

Your library is beautiful!! I used to work at my small town public library all through high school and I miss it so much! I really enjoyed all the people that came in and the calmness it brought to my life back then! We went through a whole restoration while I was there, and I'd give anything to sit in it's great room all day again!

Hi, I am a Michigan native who now lives in Indiana. We have been going to the Island every summer for years! We miss it so much if we can't make the trip. Behind the Library is our favorite place to eat an icecream cone. Just love the color of the door!

This week from library we brought home: a kids bio of Theodore Roosevelt, book about CIA, Lucy on the Loose and a book about the draining of Lake Michigan!! It's been an interesting week!

I forgot about Dinotopia! Thanks for the reminder, my boys would love it.

Is that a real, working fireplace I see surrounded by big, comfy chairs?? If I lived closer to your library, I would be there all the time. So many libraries these days are so void of personality or charm. I miss the cozy, inviting, magical libraries of my childhood.

We're on the fourth Laura Ingalls Wilder book. We also read the Rainbow Fairies series and Junie B. Jones books pretty frequently. If you have read any books by Karma Wilson or Janet Stevens, you should check them out. They're a lot of fun to read aloud.

we LOVE the Little House on the Prairie Series. We read them over and over... what's great is that each chapter is it's own little story so they don't even have to be read in order.
We are reading Gentle Ben together in the evenings and it's pretty good.
My favorites growing up were the Anne of Green Gables books. I have the whole set and plan on reading them to my girls when they get a bit older.

Well, this weekend I had more time to read as my favorite friend didn't manage to make it to my house for a visit ;-)

Frankie and Dan are reading the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett together in the evenings. They just finished "The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents" from Frankie's school library.

The Bone graphic novels by Jeff Smith and Fox Trot comic collections provide much fun and laughter. Star Wars graphic novels from the library are often found scattered about the house as well.

That Dinotopia looks amazing! I'm a sucker for great illustrations. I love King Bidgood's in the Bathtub and He Won't Get Out, and Love Flute (the most amazing Native American style artwork in the world!) Sorry I don't remember the authors offhand. The boys love anything by Graeme Base, too.
