Needless to say, they were all rather surprised, and a couple of them were a little scared. Luckily, Camilla's sweet personality and calm demeanor won them all over instantly.

Christmas Miracle
Something miraculous happened at school recently. My students entered the classroom and discovered Camilla the Christmas Chicken was no longer a stuffed chicken - she was real!
Unfortunately, Camilla couldn't hold a pencil to take the spelling test so she had to leave. We called my daughter who was willing to drive down to school, pick her up, and take her home to our chicken coop. Thankfully, the next day Camilla was back to her old, stuffed self!

Happy December
My students have been counting down the days until Camilla the Christmas Chicken returns to the classroom. She came back today - and brought treats! (This year my students have been bringing treats in for their classmates for no reason. One Tuesday, someone brings in donuts, then the next the next week we're getting cupcakes. We've decided to call those days "Random Treat Days," and Camilla decided she needed to celebrate, too.)

Camilla Returns
It's December in my classroom and that means Camilla the Christmas Chicken comes back for her yearly visit. My students were so excited to come into the classroom to see what she brought them. (She brought a puzzle from this book, if you're curious.)

She's Back
My students were thrilled when Camilla the Christmas Chicken returned this year. She loves spending time at school - especially when my students read to her.

Camilla's Antics
The kids have really enjoyed coming in to
school each morning to see what Camilla has been up to.
She brought them a kindness challenge
to work on for the month,
a joke book and a few great "dad" jokes,
she even asked me to read Rosie's Walk
out loud to them.
After overhearing the kids wonder if she could bring each of them a million bucks, she brought them one million "clucks" instead.

Camilla Returns
Camilla the Christmas Chicken has returned to my classroom. I'm not really an Elf on the Shelf kind of girl; instead we have a Christmas Chicken. (Currently, all my students celebrate Christmas, but she'll become a Holiday Chicken when needed, and she is going to bring the kids books about Hanukkah and the Winter Solstice.
She's brought treats and a tree so far, and shared an interesting video on chicken communication. Who knew chickens could make over 30 distinct vocalizations!
It makes me smile to see the kids rush over when they get to school to read her newest note. A Christmas Chicken may be weird, but I guarantee none of there other teachers will have done it!

Camilla
I don't have an Elf on the Shelf in my classroom, instead I have Camilla the Christmas Chicken. My students love her. They even love her awful "dad" jokes.
I love that they make sure to include her in our classroom activities.
She loves bringing the kids new books, curling up by the fire and reading to the class. This year she brought Cinders, Once There was a Christmas Tree and Sonya's Chickens.
Now that we're heading home for vacation, she is packing up and heading back to the coop. Little do my students know that they'll be able to check in on her using the "coop cam" my husband is setting up in our backyard chicken coop

The Christmas Chicken?
My students were sad that we didn't have a classroom Elf on the Shelf. So I recently introduced them to Camilla, the Christmas Chicken (also known as the stuffed chicken I already had so I didn't need to spend $16.00 on an Elf.) The kids love her!
She has been entertaining us with her antics all month long. She's decorated the classroom with Christmas lights, left books for the classroom library, told us awful dad jokes (chicken themed, of course), pecked in hilarious YouTube videos to watch, and even left us birdseed to munch on. It's been a bright spot in the kids' day to come in and see what she's left for them...
