Friendly Garden Visitors

My garden has been a popular place lately with dragonflies. I've seen that little red guy for the past four or five days now. I know dragonflies eat other insects and I wonder what he's eating in my garden. (Whatever it is, he can eat as much as he wants!) This morning was the first time I've seen the big guy. Apparently my bike makes a better resting spot than the plants. Maybe because he's so big... big enough, that while I was watching him through my camera lens, I could see him breathe - at least that's what it looked like. (That back tail-end-part seemed like it inflated and deflated as if he was breathing hard.)
OK, the kids are napping so I am heading back to my sewing room. I've been sewing like crazy during nap time this week...

GREAT captures! I know from experience that it is very hard to get shots of dragonflies!

Gorgeous photos! Do you think the big dragonfly was panting because it's exhausting working 4 wings at once? Or because it was scared that there was a large human pointing a funny box-thing at it?

Oh, such stunning photos! I love dragonflies. We have several varieties that come to our backyard water garden. My favorites are the iridescent blue ones. I've even had one land on my leg before--and that was quite an experience!

Liz - Marcia at Blue Bobbin introduced me to your blog and I love it! You have some of the most beautiful pictures. I love the island - was just there 2 weeks ago. I couldn't sleep last night and spent the middle of the night reading your blog. Enjoyed it alot!

Great photos of the dragonflies. They seem to move too quickly for me to catch them with my camera.
