What a fantastic weekend...
To start with, everyone who stayed with us shopped for us, which was great since the closest decent shopping is a 20 minute boat ride and a two hour drive away. L & D brought a hose reel from Meijer, K & D brought diapers, spices, and 50 pounds of dog food from Wal-Mart. M & S brought insulbright, more spices, fabric, and shoe bags from Ohio. C brought the mother load - toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, kleenex, bleach, shampoo, dryer sheets and diapers from Costco. All of which made my life much much easier. (Thanks guys!)
The eighteen of us had an absolute blast. Friday night's boat ride may have started out with a downpour but it ended with a rainbow and a lovely sunset.
Saturday's visit to the fort was a hoot. (It was the first time the kids had been there since infancy.) S loved the "Kid's Quarters," specifically the dress-up section. K, on the other hand, loved the Concert of Military Music, which S didn't get to hear because he wanted to try on every outfit.
Then, on the way home for nap time, Papa caught a garter snake. K belly laughed every time that little guy stuck out his tongue. He he he - I'm laughing again just thinking about it. (Don't worry, we let it go after we finished investigating.)
The reunion dinner at the fort on Saturday night was wonderful. We got to reminisce with lots of old friends, we got another spectacular sunset, and...Not much beats surprise fireworks!

Hi Liz,
This is my first visit to your blog and I like what I saw. The pictures are real nice and the narrative is smooth and flowing. I liked the part,"We let it go after ......".
Because they have as much right on earth as we have.
Keep posting!
Cheers;
Manohar

That snake is so freaking me out! Eek! I'm a squeamish little girl at heart! Anyway, pics are great as always (still waiting to see some of em' on Zooomr) and I'm sure glad you all had a BLAST!!
sounds like you had a lovely time. i am getting very excited about getting my little gammill back...it is totally hand guided withOUT stitch regulator. the extra large bobbin should be wonderful and since i am now in the basement the laserlight will come in real handy. cant wait to start quilting again!
Hi there! I have just 'tagged' you on my blog for a Biblical Meme. Please play along if you want!
Love that sunset photo! They are all great.
How often do you guys have such a super gathering?
The fort has a reunion every five years, however the last one was only three years ago. They scheduled this one for 2008 since this year is the 50th anniversary of when the fort first opened to tourists.
Thanks for a fantastic weekend, L!
Sounds like a grand time. I got a kick out of how excited your children were to visit the fort. It's true, most of us don't take advantage of the things in our own back yard often enough.
We are so lucky to have such amazing hosts!! F. was going to take the toothbrushes to Boy Scout camp for a joke. I think he pulled them out to show the R. Family boys. Where did you find them? :-)
