It's done and I'm feeling really good about it. OK, to be completely honest, the shoe covers and paws (a.k.a. mittens) aren't finished yet, but S needs his costume for the preschool party tomorrow, so it is done enough. I wish that I could have found some fabric that was a bit more reddish orange, but this was the best I could come up with.
My favorite part of the whole ensemble is the tail. I've never been a really big pattern drafter, but I couldn't find a fox tail pattern anywhere. So after a couple of attempts I came up with a removable tail that I am pretty happy with. (It velcros on and off so the suit can be washed.) One of these days, when I get a minute or two, I'll try to get some pictures of both kids in their costumes. Oh, and if anyone out there ever happens to need a pattern for a size 4T fox tail, let me know - it's yours.

Love the fox outfit. You did a great job on that tail.
ReplyDeleteJust by looking at the photo I can tell it will be a great costume. I agree, the tail looks very good.
ReplyDeleteLOOKS FABULOUS!!!! These are the costumes of my childhood! My grandma always made the BEST in town! I wish I could do the same for my lil ones!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! It is adorable! The tail is perfect.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely ADORE the tail! great work!
ReplyDeletei loved making halloween outfits for the boys and now i make them for tori and hopefully max. bernie is 39, so 34 years ago i drafted a dragon with hood and 3'tail. hood snapped under neck and on top, down neck to base of tail where, whatever you call those jagged fins, and they were stuffed so they would stand up straight. it had long snaggle paws and long pointy toes. my boys loved it, and when each one could fit in it, they wore it. they wore that thing out. i love to make frufru things for tori...some sewing skills serious lacking when you sew for boys.
ReplyDeleteLast year we made the costume, this year he wanted a store-bought one. Such is the way. Your fox is lovely!
ReplyDeleteHave fun trick-r-treating! Why are the stores closed next week-end?
Lovely satin stitching!
ReplyDeleteYou outdid yourself! That fox tail is sooo cute! Looking forward to seeing pics of the kids dressed up.
ReplyDeleteWow, it looks like that is a fabulous costume. We're fox fans here, so you can't get any better :-)
