Winding Down


Summer officially ends for us tomorrow - when I return to school. (Schools can't begin until after Labor Day in Michigan.) We're trying to enjoy our last day of lazy by dyeing Queen Anne's Lace* and geocaching. No Bridge Walk for us this year. Maybe when the kids are a bit older...

I'm also feverishly working on Candy Land birthday items. Soon I'll have a shirt, a crown, and a few other surprises to share. Until then enjoy the Queen Anne's Lace. My son loved how quickly the blue dye worked. (We used gel food coloring.) Within four hours some flowers were already blue. The orange worked well too, but the red and yellow - not so much.


* I read about this on a blog somewhere, but for the life of me I can't remember where. So my apologies for not giving credit where credit is due.

    Pretty flowers! We used to do it with carnations when I was a kid.

    We went geo-caching last week-end. Hmmm, maybe we'll go again today!

    Ah! I didn't realize you could do that to Queen Anne's Lace! I must do it now too! Also, we've geocached a few times on the island. My faorite was Six Cedars along the Tranquil Bluff Trail. Have you done that one?

    I love Queen Anne's Lace. When I was a kid my Mom called them chigger weeds and I thought they were bad. Not any more.

    Blue was always the color that worked best for us as kids. This can be done with celery too, my girls used to think striped celery was the way to go.

    Nooooooooo! It can't be. School already? Didn't you just post about the beginning of summer and blooming tulips? Where has summer gone - more accurately - was it here at all?

    That's a fun project! I always thought it would be fun to teach and live on Mackinac Island. Love to see pictures of your school!
