As of today, at 4:30 PM, ferry service to and from the island is done for the season. Too much ice...
As you can see, lots of people tried to stock up on supplies for the winter. But don't worry, I'm not
completely cut off from the outside world...
I just have to take this...
Now that must be an interesting feeling, not even a ferry boat. Is there a plane on permanent stand-by for medical emergencies? Up here the ferries are always docked at the smaller islands and the crew can be called out at any time for a medical transfer.
ReplyDeleteI would probably be one of the families trying to stock up in HUGE amounts for the winter! LOL. I'm glad to hear that you still have a plane that can take you on and off the island if you need to :) That is a neat pic of the ferry coming through the ice to.
ReplyDeletegreat picture of the ferry ...never thought about this wow.
ReplyDeleteYES I would have been stocking up too.
Thank goodness you can always do mail order right!!!! if you need me to send you some chocolate or chips just let me know!
do you take the little plane during the winter to go shopping? not sure I would want to ride in that!!!
Kathie
Happy New Year!
ReplyDeletewow, that's impressive! I am not sure I would be able to cope with being that isolated!
I wonder, have you lived on the island your entire life? How do you get mail and ups ect?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you are very well prepared for the rest of the winter season.
I admitt it sounds cool!
Liz - I love the updates on what goes on on the island. It must take great preparation to be prepared for the winter. How often to you head back to the mainland? Is is really expensive, or not so bad?? So many questions for island living...... especially an island in Michigan weather!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!
Wow Liz! That just blows my mind. Stay warm up there!
ReplyDeletewow, seriously??
ReplyDeletethats a wee bit remote for moi, i think.... altho it looks beautiful
do they have heat in those wee planes??? im thinking not.stay warm
CAN YOU FLY??? WOW!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you really do live way up north! The photo of the ferry in the ice is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of interesting questions in these comments. I'd love to see you post more about how you and your family make it through the winter.
First thing I thought of when I saw that plane was Northern Exposure. You guys might as well be in Alaska - unless you can walk out across the ice... Hope you've got everything you need.
ReplyDeleteWow. Stunning photos! How do you manage? I would be one of those people trying to do last minute stocking up, and then I would forget something vital! Stay warm :-)
ReplyDeleteWow. Just Wow. I'm always intrigued by your life on the island. How many weeks do you usually have to wait for the Ferry to operate again??
ReplyDeleteStay warm, friend! xo
Although we have differences in culture, but do not want is that this view is the same and I like that!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea...makes me appreciate my 10 minute jaunt to the market. So very interesting. I love the photos.
