Monday Morning

Monday morning the kids and I walked across the Mackinac Bridge in the 54th Annual Bridge Walk. We had a great time! We walked, stopped for snacks in the middle, and had a blast visiting with our friends up from out of town.

We knew it would be a long day, but we were beat by the time we got home. It wasn't just a five mile walk for us; we had to walk a mile to get to the boat, a 1/2 mile from where the shuttle left us off to get to the bridge, a mile from the end of the bridge to the boat dock in Mackinaw City, and then another mile back home from the dock on the island. It ended up being more like a nine mile walk for us. Well, for the adults anyway; the little ones were able to take breaks in the stroller. Except for my daughter - hers wasn't really a break - she fell asleep by the time we were half way across and rode the rest of the way. Let me tell you, my hips hurt Tuesday morning. But it was so worth it.

How about you, what did you do over the long weekend?

  1. I painted my bathroom on Monday, after helping my sister-in-law move some furniture from one upstairs apartment to another upstair apartment...I totally feel your hip pain, mine still hurts

  2. I did the bridge walk once when I was in high school and that was enough for me. I love it dearly, but walking on the mesh center lanes and feeling the bridge sway slightly in the wind - not for me! It is something that every Michigander should try at least once, though.

  3. I'm proud of you for doing that with S&K! I was just reading about it in the paper and remembering when we did it. Getting out of bed on a cold, wet morning gave me second thoughts but I was glad we DID it! Maybe again some time! For us, it was a cabin day with 3 boys, etc. They carefully placed a plastic frog on a log in the pond and tricked most of us, at least momentarily!

  4. That looks cold - everyone's all bundled up!

We are having our first heat-wave of summer, just in time for school to start. We had fun on the week-end though, enjoying the gorgeous weather.

  5. I'm not sure I could do that, lol - well, I know I couldn't walk that far, but on the bridge? I can barely stand to drive over it. It scares me! I don't like looking down while I'm on it and seeing water. *G* Was it cold? I see everyone bundled up!

  7. We walked the Bridge too. Cold and blustery, but still fun. Went over to the Island after. We hiked, biked and bought fudge! Ran into one of the doctors I work with while we were there. It was a great day. We should catch up again next year.

  8. I spent the morning giving my daughter a refresher course in canning peaches. I then went in and gave my studio a deep cleaning and organized myself for some major sewing projects over the next 2 months.

  9. I SO want to do that walk one of these days! The problem for us is that as you know, school starts the next day, and getting all the way back to southern MI in traffic after getting up early and walking, makes it a difficult challenge. I do want to do it with my kids though and they are getting to the point where they wouldn't complain about it now, so we will try it soon. As for our plans... we went to the in-laws in Bay City for a picnic, and then got ready for school!

  10. Some day we will have to do the Bridge Walk. :)
We left the island on Friday and came home for the Labor Day weekend to catch up on laundry and start preparations for school. We had a wonderful vacation on the island the previous week. It was our third trip up this year. Now we can settle in for the winter and look forward to next year's trips! :)

  12. Sounds like fun.
We went to a small town talent show with local guys also that got together to entertain in between. Cool. Knew all the guys in the band.
Sold produce at the farmers market Saturday morning.
Sunday enjoyed the weather outside puttering around in the yard and taking a walk with the puppydog. B.
